In the 21st century, the number of methods in which to treat a patient has increased. In modern society, the most common method for treating a patient is in the form of medicine. This is in large part due to the growing advancement of technology and research. In medicine many forms of treatment are offered to the ill, ranging from therapy, ancient healing techniques, and herbal methods. Of late, a different treatment known as intercessory prayer has gained some attention. This is the act of praying on behalf of patients. The history of intercessory prayer originates from religious people believing that praying on the behalf of the sick can heal the said patient. Intercessory prayer should not be supported in the field of medicine because prayer and religion are separate entities from medicine. Secondly, practicing intercessory prayer in a medical practitioner’s field of work is unprofessional. Intercessory prayer should not be supported in the field of medicine because religi on should be independent from a medical practitioner’s field of work. Praying is defined as the religious act towards worshiping a deity and medicine is defined as the act of healing others. The fundamental definitions for both of these terms are completely opposite, which is the reason for great discrepancy between the two methods.
